Measured Building Survey

We offer the complete range of measured building surveys to meet RICS guidelines including floor plans, sections, elevations, area calculations and rights of light. Using the latest technology and software we provide high-quality surveys in a variety of 2D and 3D formats, depending on the requirements of your project. Detailing all the relevant features of the space we verify all data using our rigorous Quality Assurance system to ensure the highest level of accuracy.

We exclusively survey all our modelling projects using 3D data capture technologies from standard Total Stations through to the latest high-level laser scanners. From the data, our experienced modelling team use software such as AutoCAD and Revit to create dimensionally accurate 3D models detailing the outline and features of a space, building or structure.

The use of Drone technology as part of a measured building survey has become increasingly commonplace, as drones are ideal for surveying hard to reach or dangerous areas remotely, safely and cost effectively.  Inaccessible roof tops can be also surveyed without the need for scaffolding, providing cost savings to your project. Drone data can also be post-processed and integrated into CAD and BIM software for accurate modelling, depending on the requirements of your project.

Projects

Heritage

Poole Museum: The Atrium, Oakley’s Mill (Grade II listed), The Town Cellars (Grade I Listed) and Scaplen’s Court (Grade I Listed) – Overall area of approximately 3,000 m2. We provided highly detailed floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, roof plans, elevations of the external facades and all internal walls, sections and elevational sections. All Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) services were also shown on the drawings to inform the planning and delivery of major restoration and conservation works.

Rochester Cathedral, Grade I listed building – The second oldest bishopric in England, we delivered floor and roof plans, sectional elevations of the external facades and fully detailed elevations of the historic boundary walls. Ortho photos of key facades were also supplied as part of the survey requirements.

Syon House, Grade I listed building – Residence of the Duke of Northumberland, the building has an overall area of more than 5,000 m2. Our team delivered fully detailed floor plans, roof plans and elevations of the external facades. Also included were highly detailed elevations of key internal rooms and comprehensive reflected ceiling plans which included all electrical fittings.

Retail

Shopping Centres and Supermarkets – Our team have surveyed a wide range of shopping centres, supermarkets and multi-storey car parks across the UK. These complex projects required tailored approaches and the drawings included detailed floor and roof plans, sections, elevations and reflected ceiling plans. For many projects, our surveys extended above suspended ceilings, where we lifted tiles and deployed extendable tripods to record services and structural details hidden by falsework.

Infrastructure

Shoreditch Fire Station, London – The building extends over 5 floors with a total area of more than 3,000 m². We were instructed to provide detailed floor plans, sections, elevations of the external facades of the main building and all neighbouring properties, along with a topographical survey of the grounds and adjacent roads.

Scarborough Railway Station, Grade II listed building – We delivered a comprehensive measured building survey of the railway station, platforms and facilities, covering more than 6,000 m². All data was collected using laser scanners and we produced detailed floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevations of the main building and neighbouring properties and sections. A 3D topographical survey was also carried out as part of the survey requirements.

Offices

TK Maxx, Watford – This large office space extended over 6 floors with a total area of 10,200 m². We had multiple teams on site who coordinated effectively to achieve a quick turnaround for our client. The final package included fully detailed external elevations, floor and roof plans, sections and outline elevations of the neighbouring properties. Measurements above suspended ceilings were also carried out using an extendable tripod for our laser scanner.

Oxford Street, London – We carried out a measured building survey of the 6-storey, 7,000 m², multi-occupancy office space to provide the accurate calculations needed to establish a sale price for the property. With multiple tenants in place, access was a challenge, but our team successfully delivered comprehensive floor plans along with GIA & NIA calculations.

Peter House, Manchester – This 12-storey office building of approximately 12,000 m² located in the heart of Manchester was fully surveyed by our team. The deliverables included floor and roof plans, seven sections and detailed elevations of the external façades. As part of the project requirements, we also produced highly detailed elevations of the Grade II listed building that sat opposite, which was crucial for design and planning.

Leisure

Ted Webster Family Centre, Poole – The survey of the 1,000 m2 property was carried out on behalf on Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council. The submitted data included detailed elevations of the external facades, floor plans and sections. A topographical survey of the grounds was also carried out as part of the project.

The Wild Place, Bristol Zoo – Our team surveyed several buildings of varying age and complexity, covering a combined area of around 3,000 m². The final dataset included detailed floor and roof plans, internal and external elevations, sections, and reflected ceiling plans providing a complete record to support design and refurbishment.

Education

Schools, Colleges and Universities – Premier Surveys have delivered numerous measured building surveys at educational facilities located throughout the UK including Enfield, Staffordshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Nottinghamshire and Greater London.  Our surveys provided architects with accurate drawings to support refurbishment, extensions and new developments in the education sector. All surveys were carried out considering school operations, timetables and ensuring our surveyors held valid DBS checks.
